The changing landscape of telecom networks
|
With both fixed and mobile networks now carrying more data than voice, OSS systems have to adapt to introduce high capacity transmission technologies such as Carrier Ethernet while continuing to support legacy equipment using PDH, SDH and the like.
Complex services, such as corporate virtual private networks (VPNs) and a growing range of consumer triple-play features, require service providers to bring more services to market more quickly – while still maintaining quality and service level agreements (SLAs).
The industry is rapidly deploying new technologies to meet demands for high speed broadband, such as LTE, FTTx and Ethernet. When combined with more efficient and capable products from equipment vendors, OSS strategists are striving to keep up with the pace of change.
Amdocs OSS 8.1 addresses these needs
Amdocs OSS 8.1 builds on the foundations of earlier releases to support any service, any technology and any line of business (fixed, mobile, broadband, cable) from an IT and TMF standards-compliant architecture, enabling co-existence with existing operational systems.
New functionality includes:
- Service Order Management: With flexible order editing and work-task manipulation, speeds the order process for customers with existing services. In addition, it reduces the time to deliver complex services, such as IP-VPNs (virtual private network) and can improve order processing efficiency by up to 15%
- Business VoIP: Amdocs OSS 8.1 includes a pre-configured solution for VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) services for enterprise customers, reducing time to market for unified communications services including voice communications and multimedia sessions
- LTE, Ethernet, Fiber: Out-of-the-box configurations to support the next wave of network technologies – LTE (long-term evolution), FTTX (fiber to the X) and Ethernet - as well as enhancements to next generation network typology and device models to reduce complexity and cost. As a result, operators can reduce costs by up to 10% when introducing new technologies
- Data Integrity Management: Allows operators to selectively target network elements for reconciliation, thereby increasing inventory accuracy and reducing the time taken to identify and resolve discrepancies
- Platform enhancements: Enhancements to Amdocs OSS Studio for product configuration and Universal Installer can reduce costs to deploy by up to 10%
