Across the board, COVID-19 has changed the way consumers have digital experiences, and made businesses realize their legacy IT infrastructure may not be quite up-to-par.

To stay aligned with what consumers, employees and businesses need, what critical technologies have come into focus?

Avishai Sharlin, division president of Amdocs Technology, recently discussed this topic during Amdocs’ Enrich Live series. As the pandemic creates a ripple effect long after the dust settles, we’ll need more than just reliable internet access to manage our new digital society. This is where the cloud will continue to play a critical role.

“I think the cloud was the lifesaver of this industry,” said Sharlin. “10 to 15 years ago, it was a completely different world without the ability to do two-thirds of what we’re doing today.”

But there is a lot to consider when leveraging the cloud. As more IT organizations embrace it, cyber-attacks and malicious hacking attempts are becoming a growing issue that must be addressed.

“We see issues related to security as more people are working from home. Not all organizations have practices to prepare themselves for such an event,” claims Sharlin.

While the cloud is the critical technology helping us through this time, not everything needs to move to it. We’ll see edge computing continue to evolve, becoming much more dominant in the industry as it pushes out heavy processing for automation, AI, OTT, entertainment and gaming.

“Edge computing will become a rudimentary piece of the puzzle in the end-to-end approach,” said Sharlin.
