The future of tech podcast: Dr. Tom Bradicich, Hewlett Packard Enterprises

It’s predicted that there will be more than 64 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices by 2025, an increase from 10 billion in 2018, and 9 billion in 2017. But as IoT adoption increases, how can it move from simple internet-connected devices to something more meaningful?

It’s predicted that there will be more than 64 billion Internet of Things (IoT) devices by 2025, an increase from 10 billion in 2018, and 9 billion in 2017. But as IoT adoption increases, how can it move from simple internet-connected devices to something more meaningful? Even something that can predict the future? Avishai Sharlin, division president of Amdocs Technology, recently discussed this topic with Dr. Tom Bradicich, vice president of Hewlett Packard Fellow, and head of the Global Edge and IoT Labs at Hewlett Packard Enterprises. Bradicich said that when you combine IoT, edge computing and an understanding of data living within devices, you can be more efficient in your business and forecast what’s coming.
“There have always been things with data inside of them, but what’s different today is the ability to tap into those things and use that pent up data. Things need to be digitized to be processed,” said Bradicich. “The amount of data we can affordably capture is exceeding the affordability of processing. The more data you have, the higher probability the predictions you make will be correct.” Bradicich goes on to state how edge computing is essentially the glue that helps bring AI, IoT and business predictions together, and is a critical area moving for “You have to watch out because the data center definition is changing. We’re now talking about edge clouds and distributed clouds, and the distribution of computing at the edge is something you don’t want to miss,” Bradichich said. “So go to the edge, assess it, and understand that it’s out there.” For more on these topics and additional insights around the convergence of technologies, listen to the Future of Tech podcast series.
