Reorganizing the world
“Point of View” is back with a bang!
On the first episode of the podcast’s new season, Gil sits down with Gerd Leonhard, a German futurist, speaker, and author of several books, including “Technology Vs. Humanity.” They dive into what can be done to create solutions, the impact of free market capitalism, and the incentives needed to create a better society for everyone. Here, Leonhard puts forward his “People, Planet, Purpose and Prosperity” idea for the future:
“Free market capitalism will not be enough to combat climate change, fix the healthcare system on a global level, or change food and water inequality or poverty. We need a new way of looking at what we want, and how we want to organize the world. If we want to be happy in the future, we’re going to have to rethink how things work in a very fundamental way. I call this People, Planet, Purpose and Prosperity.”
“So...are we doomed?”
As 2021 nears its end, Gil and Gerd also discuss how COVID-19 exposed several shortcomings in today’s society, both from a healthcare and economic perspective. In applying lessons learned throughout the pandemic, Leonhard believes real action on climate change is also possible.
“People don’t change voluntarily. We only change through pain, or love. And we experienced a lot of pain related to the pandemic. So we’ve made adjustments and produced a vaccine. The same kind of commitment the world has shown to tackling the coronavirus – we must now show in tackling climate change.”
So what’s next for those who want to ensure a better future? And are we doomed, after all? Listen to the full episode.
