My technology journey began with a love for math when I was a child.
Everyone thought it was unique. I am glad I embraced my uniqueness, which has allowed me to succeed.
I am a Solution Architect for Amdocs Digital Brands Suite in Bulgaria. During my younger days, many women in technology careers could be found throughout Eastern Europe, including Ukraine and Georgia. In these countries, both men and women were pushed into engineering and science careers. They promoted equal work and paid for both men and women, which laid the foundation for a large proportion of women in technology.
But that was not the reason why I got into technology. For me, technology was not an option but the only option. I never thought of anything else as my professional career. I didn’t choose technology; technology chose me. It’s a continuation of everything I’ve done since I was a young child.
I love technology because it is not only about solving problems but creating something beautiful and helping people.
When the roots are deep and passion strong, we must not fear the wind
I was always fascinated by technology and learning ever since my childhood. As a first-grader, I took extra math and programming classes and won national championships.
My parents supported me in learning beyond the school curriculum with extra Math and English lessons. I also learned a lot from my elder brother, a technology geek.
When you have the support and faith of your family, you go out into the world with a lot of wind under your wings.
"I love technology because it is not only about solving problems but creating something beautiful and helping people."
The secret to getting ahead is starting early
I was lucky enough to get into Amdocs straight after college. Amdocs opened the gateway for many significant growth and development opportunities for me.
At Amdocs, it’s not just about the professional challenges and accomplishments but going a step further. Here, I work on profoundly exciting projects, such as massive digital transformations for leading telecoms and cutting-edge technologies and methodologies, such as Agile and DevOps. There aren’t many companies that open doors to such strategic and compelling professional experiences.
Furthermore, Amdocs is not only about work but beyond it. If we look through the lens of gender, Amdocs is unique in providing equal opportunities both to men and women for their contribution, development, growth, and success.
At Amdocs, I was recognized for my excellent work in my early years, and this filled me with the confidence that when you work hard, show perseverance, and bring value, it takes you a long way.
The importance of being you
While the sense of equality has always accompanied me along my professional journey, sometimes, a woman does need to stand up for herself. The pace of advancement isn’t always the same everywhere in the world. In some cultures, the evolutionary journey is still in progress.
At times, being a woman in a leadership position does not resonate well with everyone, and when I experienced this, I knew I had to stand my ground. I was confident in my skillset, and my work was a testimony to it. When you bring value and benefit to the table, people respect you.
What’s my secret recipe for my success?
Curiosity, constant learning, persistence, and hard work were the keys to my self-development as a techie, but I always ensured to have fun because whatever we do should produce joy.
So, is that the secret recipe for my success as a woman in tech? Well, probably not! Probably it was confidence in myself.
This is something I would tell any woman seeking a career in tech or any field. Always keep your self-confidence intact no matter what anyone says. It would be best if you never doubted yourself. Never underestimate your abilities, and always speak up for yourself!
So, if you’re looking for some secret recipe for success, it lies in believing in yourself and being you!
Technology is changing faces and becoming creative, with more women stepping into this field. These are fabulous times to be a woman. There are no limits. You can be anything and anyone you want to be. So, stop looking and go out there and be!
