About the customer
Bond Digital Health specializes in data management software for the medical sector. Its flagship product, Transform®, processes lateral flow and rapid diagnostic test results for real-time capture and analysis of critical healthcare data.
Sensitive medical data demanded enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure
Bond Digital Health had developed Transform®, their flagship platform for processing lateral flow test results for conditions including Covid-19, HIV, Hepatitis C and Bovine TB, along with associated patient data. While the core software was built in-house, the company needed specialist cloud engineering expertise to create secure, scalable infrastructure for a cloud-native application capable of delivering test data and reports to healthcare professionals and public health authorities.
Security was paramount, given the sensitive nature of the data. The solution also needed high availability and capacity to simultaneously handle millions of data points. Furthermore, the company required automated deployment capabilities to support rapid application updates. After evaluating their options, they selected Amdocs to build the AWS infrastructure and provide ongoing cloud managed services.
“We knew that hosting the application dashboard on AWS was the best way forward, but we didn’t have the dedicated DevOps resource to get it set up exactly as we wanted. Amdocs built a secure and reliable infrastructure that will allow us to scale over time.”
Creating a simple, versatile AWS environment
Amdocs’s first task was to identify which AWS and third-party services would best meet the application’s needs. Compatibility with Bond Digital Health’s database was essential. Rightsizing was also a priority, ensuring the technology could handle the application load without compromising cost-efficiency. The final solution involved AWS Elastic Beanstalk, leveraging Amazon EC2, RDS and S3. Amdocs built a staging environment to test the setup, and then moved to production.
Given the sensitive healthcare data, security implementation was critical. Load balancers were used to access instances, all of which were non-internet facing. To maximize security, Amdocs used AWS Web Application Firewall as a filter before load balancers, monitoring all incoming traffic. The team took a methodical approach to setting permissions, including restricting object access in buckets containing sensitive information.
For automated deployment capabilities, Amdocs implemented code pipeline leveraging Terraform across the full environment. Source control was configured using AWS Code Commit, while EC2 Auto Scaling groups were set up to ensure scalability in line with application load.
Enhanced capabilities with ongoing support
Despite Bond Digital Health’s strong technical capabilities, building cloud-based applications represented new territory. Through collaborative partnership, Amdocs delivered a solution that met the strict requirements of digital healthcare products using current AWS technologies and services. As a result, Bond Digital Health’s developers can now deploy changes quickly and securely, while Amdocs’s cloud managed services team provides ongoing support for continual improvement.
