Making outsourced IT operations work

As Motonovo prepared to grow their business, the application team identified the need to prioritize software development and delivery over management and maintenance. But this needed to be achieved without compromising on platform reliability or user experience – particularly with regard to planned enhancements for findandfundmycar.com, its vehicle aggregation site.

With the business transitioning to a self-hosted model on AWS, outsourcing the platform’s operations was seen as the optimal approach. Building for seamless long-term operations

Amdocs began by looking beyond only the technical architecture. Starting during the build phase, they focused on long-term operability, thereby ensuring ongoing management and maintenance would run smoothly as the platform scaled. Working collaboratively, Amdocs scoped the work based on Motonovo’s initial architectural design, built the platform on AWS, and ensured a seamless transition to its dedicated managed cloud services team. The solution was also integrated with Motonovo’s existing enterprise authentication platform and deployment pipelines, which made the entire process more efficient and straightforward.

Focusing on operational readiness meant the new product platform could be launched with 24/7 availability and support from day one, while being primed to accommodate ongoing growth, increasing traffic and iterative improvements without compromising user experience quality. Amdocs also conducted a dedicated onboarding session to run through the various platform components, determine performance thresholds and break/fix levels, as well as establish processes for daily communication, out-of-hours support, logging, tickets and naming conventions.

The onboarding process ultimately laid the foundation for a strong, cohesive and personal working relationship. Motonovo’s application team met key members of Amdocs’ managed cloud services team via video call, establishing first-name relationships and setting up a dedicated Slack channel to facilitate regular direct communication. Ongoing conversations about work happen frequently and informally, and when performance issues occur, the company contacts the Amdocs team via Slack, enabling rapid and effective resolution before problems escalate. Catch-up conversations are held every two weeks and monthly activity reports are shared.
