There’s no denying it – we humans are obsessed with our mobile phones.
Out of the 8.1 billion people that roam this earth, over 5.4 billion have at least one mobile subscription.
Ours is a mobile-centric, mobile-driven, mobile-first world, and this is great news for MVNOs.
The opportunity is great, and this is why I’m looking forward to the upcoming MVNO Summit at MWC Barcelona, which is sure to be rich with premier insights and the unveiling of exciting new innovations.
And looking ahead to the Summit, I’d like to share some thoughts about the state of the market and what’s the key to tapping into the great revenue potential.
Connectivity for all
Everyone wants über-connectivity. Consumers are continually looking to get more and more out of their phones. Whether for making mobile payments, streaming content from the cloud, or just talking with an old college roommate who’s now living in a far off land, the demand for mobile has never been greater and it will only continue to grow.
What places MVNOs in a most strategic position, is that subscribers today are also in need of more affordable alternatives for going mobile. And it’s the MVNO model that makes these operators supremely well suited for making highly competitive offers.
"That’s why the key to MVNO success is a BSS that’s designed for the big leagues, with all of its modernized and cutting-edge capabilities, but which can be deployed and leveraged with simplicity and cost efficiency."
More room for even greater growth
Another force impacting the potential for MVNOs are the new entrants to the world of connectivity. Players from multiple industries such as retail, e-retail, transportation, fintech, utilities, and more are looking to deliver value-added connectivity-driven offerings.
MVNOs can help them and open up previously untapped streams of revenue. They can power multi-play offerings for media and entertainment, serve as a one-stop-shop for utilities, and tailor custom solutions for retailers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
So it’s no surprise that by the end of this year the MVNO market is estimated to reach approximately $81 billion and nearly $140 billion by 2030.
The key to MVNO success
For MVNOs to capture their share of the multi-billion dollar opportunity they need to be able to focus on what they know and do best – the business and their customers.
Driving success requires outstanding branding and marketing, a keen focus on the product proposition, the ability to customize pricing per segment as well as to manage and orchestrate an ever growing ecosystem of partners.
Though, traditionally the tech stack required for enabling all this had come with too much breadth, depth, and cost for an MVNO.
Though there really is no reason why these operators can’t offer innovative services on digital channels, leverage AI to drive growth, and monetize the customer lifecycle, without all the effort and cost of a multiyear digital transformation project.
That’s why the key to MVNO success is a BSS that’s designed for the big leagues, with all of its modernized and cutting-edge capabilities, but which can be deployed and leveraged with simplicity and cost efficiency.
This is where Amdocs ConnectX (formerly Digital Brands Suite) comes into play.

A great hit with global MVNOs
ConnectX is a great hit, already delivering measurable value to MVNOs all over the world. For example, we recently announced that Spanish service provider Finetwork selected ConnectX to transform its core business systems so it can offer triple-play options with fiber, TV, and mobile services in a way that’s flexible and cost-effective.
In fact, Finetwork’s Chief Technology Officer, Carlos Valero will be joining me at the MWC MVNO Summit, where together we’ll be presenting how MVNOs can innovate and lead just like tier-1 operators but without all the overhead. So come join us on Wednesday, February 26th, at 16:00, in Partner Theater 4.
In the meantime, if you want to learn more about how ConnectX can help you capture the multi-billion dollar MVNO opportunity, I invite you to book a meeting with us in Barcelona.
