From Intel demonstrating real-world applications to Vodafone sharing open RAN success stories, participants experienced first-hand how theory is becoming reality. Here’s what we learned:

Key themes

Much of the discussion centered on how telcos are moving away from single-vendor networks as they shift from competition to collaboration. Instead of traditional non-modular RAN architecture, they’re choosing interoperable components from multiple providers – and reaping the rewards of greater efficiency and more innovation opportunities.

Another prominent theme was the importance of AI and automation for managing open, programmable networks – technologies that help providers tackle their biggest challenges around monetization and security as they move toward broader interoperability.

Many speakers also emphasized the need to scale and share testing between providers, with strong support for TIP's ‘test once, deploy many’ approach, while security considerations continue to shape how they implement and scale these networks.

Industry perspectives: from concept to reality

The diversity of voices at Fyuz 2024 highlighted how rapidly the industry is moving from theoretical discussions to practical implementation:

“Telcos are no longer isolated islands. By leveraging cloud and GenAI, we’re working with Amdocs to drive real-world applications like edge inferencing and Open RAN 5G. Together, we’re enabling sectors such as energy, healthcare and retail to achieve business results powered by advanced connectivity.”

Caroline Chan

5G Infrastructure Division, Network Platform Group, Intel

“The integration of AI and RAN is transforming telcos. From improving network performance to running AI applications alongside the RAN, the potential for efficiency and innovation is immense. It’s exciting to see these advancements taking shape.”

Chris Penrose

Global Head Business Development – Telco, NVIDIA

“Open RAN is ready for prime time. With significant deployments and improving KPIs, we’re seeing promising innovations in hardware and RIC. The energy at Fyuz reflects the industry’s shared commitment to this journey.”

Francisco Martin Pignatelli

Head of Open RAN, Vodafone

“Fyuz offers the perfect environment for deep technical interactions. It’s about turning discussions into actionable solutions, fostering a platform-based approach that supports multi-vendor integration and long-term success.”

Rob Soni

VP - RAN Technology, AT&T

“Multivendor Open RAN is an opportunity but also a challenge. The key lies in balancing flexibility with complexity, ensuring seamless integration while fostering innovation in areas like GenAI.”

Monica Paolini

Principal, Senza Fili

“I’ve heard more interesting stuff about some of the applications and the RIC aspects of it this year. So one of the things I particularly noticed is this reference to Spectrum agility, as a potential application on a programmable radio network. And that fits with a lot of things that I’m talking about on things like spectrum sharing, future sensing capabilities”

Amdocs: delivering on the promise of open networks

We contributed to four sessions  throughout the event, discussing the journeys to multi-vendor Open RAN deployments in the industry. During our panel discussion, CSPs shared insights about the advantages of these solutions, the challenges of implementation, and their real-world experiences. We also presented Amdocs Network Optimization Suite, demonstrating how we’re accelerating RAN intelligence across network ecosystems. Our contributions extended to Open RAN advancements, where we highlighted our work in the ARIANE project, including the ‘energy savings’ use case and RIC-enabled solutions. We were also recognized for our industry leadership with two TIP silver badges for excellence in Open RAN use cases, reflecting our commitment to helping telcos transform their networks and operations.

The road ahead

The discussions at Fyuz 2024 made one thing clear: starting the Open RAN journey is no longer optional – it’s essential. As AI and GenAI transform the industry, telcos need networks that can adapt and scale. Open interfaces and multi-vendor solutions provide this flexibility, while automation helps create simpler, smarter operations.

The path forward? Ultimately, it’s a combination of open integration to drive innovation and open intelligence to create new efficiencies – both essential elements for staying competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.
