The Challenge
YES (Yankees Entertainment & Sports) Network made the strategic decision to transition their content away from the FOX Sports GO app and develop their own independent streaming platform. The aim was to control their own digital destiny and build direct relationships with sports fans – yet it created a dual challenge: successfully migrating their established user base while simultaneously attracting new viewers to their own platform.
The transition represented a significant shift for subscribers who were accustomed to accessing content through FOX Sports GO. To answer this challenge, the network needed to create compelling reasons for fans to follow them to a new platform while delivering an experience that would appeal to potential new users who had never engaged with YES content before.
The Solution
Leveraging UX/UI expertise, Amdocs Studios developed a custom streaming platform solution with cross-platform deployment across ten different platforms, designed to maximize user engagement through personalization. The approach identified key customer experience gaps associated with traditional streaming services, including consistency, process improvements, and seamless cross-device access.
By implementing push notifications and analyzing viewership trends for both live feeds and video-on-demand content, the solution enabled YES Network to offer personalized fan experiences that would engage existing users while attracting new viewers.
The Results
The new streaming platform successfully enabled YES Network to transition from third-party dependence to direct audience ownership, enabling them to broadcast live games on any device and deliver real-time polls, facts, stats, and personalized sports content wherever fans want to experience it.
The solution successfully addressed the customer experience gaps that had been identified, delivering the consistency, process improvements and seamless cross-device access that traditional streaming services often lack. YES Network can now build direct relationships with their audience through data-driven insights and customized engagement – capabilities they never had through FOX Sports GO.
Significantly, the streaming solution earned Emmy award recognition in the Interactive Media category, validating the platform's innovation in digital sports engagement.
